Friction

To overcome this hurdle, exact lubrication is very important. Consider the matter of lubrication of all surfaces which move in contact with others, whether in rotation or sliding.

Cost of construction

Yielding and making a component must be smooth, easy and its overall cost must be minimum. So the cost of construction is an important asset to build or make a component.

Size of the parts

Form and size of the part are based on judgement. Either the part is small but it may be checked that the stresses induced in the designed cross-section are reasonably safe. To design any machine component or part for form or size, it is essential to know the forces which the part must sustain. Designer must know the suddenly applied or shock/impact load which may cause the failure.

Safety measures

Certain machines are very dangerous during operation, typically those which need speed to ensure production at a maximum rate. So safety measures must be followed to avoid accidents.

The load, on a machine parts might act in different ways, due to which the internal stresses are set. These stresses are like bearing, compressive, torsion , bending stresses etc.

Quantity

The number of parts or machines to be manufactured affects the design in several ways.

In designing the features of a machine must be carefully studied. The start, control and stop levers must be located on the basis of convenience of handling. Replacement of other parts is to be located in an easy mounting positions.

Automobile Types: Rear Axle or Live Axle

To mention, rear axle is the last member of a power train. In most of the automobiles, real axle is the driving axle. It lies in between the driving wheels and the differential gear and transmit power from the differential to the driving wheels. It has two half shaft connected to the differential gear, one for each wheel. The inner end of each half shaft connected to the sun gear of the differential and the outer end to the wheel. The rear axle and differential gear completely encloses in a box which protects them from water, dust or any injury.

Function of a rear axle:

The rear axle does following two main functions.

  • 1. Carries weight of the vehicle.
  • 2. Rotates and transmits power from the engine to the wheels.

Classification of rear axle:

Rear axle is classified by two methods.

1. According to the making of axle:

(A.) Banjo axle:

An axle with a single shaft and a final drive assembly is carried in a separate case which is bolted to the axle box. The banjo is often used for small and light vehicles.

(B.) Split axle:

Here the shaft is used with the central house has the differential gear and it is fitted with a tube on each side to bear the half axles and bearing.

2. On the basis of the method of supporting:

(A.) Half floating rear axle:

In this axle the support of the axle, is inside the case. The axle of the wheel is at the centre of the axle case.The whole weight of the vehicle is first transmitted to the suspension spring and next to the axle case, rear axle, wheel and ground.

(B.) Three quarter floating rear axle:

In this axle bearing is on the outer side of case between the wheel and the axle case. The wheels are fitted at the end of the axle by means of a key, bolt or nut.

The weight of the vehicle is supported partially by the axle case and partially by the axle. The main benefit of this type of axle over the half floating one is that the major part of the load is taken by the axle case and not by the axle. The function od the axle is to take care of the rotating and transmits the power.

(C.) Full floating rear axle:

Here the bearing is on the outer side of case between the wheel and the axle case. The axle is not supported by the bearing at all the ends. The wheels are fitted at the end of the axle by means of a key, bolt or nut.

Thus the total weight of the vehicle is supported by the wheel and axle case. The axle has no strain caused by the weight of the vehicle on end thrust. It transfers only the driving torque.

In Many Ways CADCAM Press Is Losing Eminence!

What is objective writing?…Well being true in your words, not doing product fanboi’s and giving honest review. Rhino CAM

A video has been circulating that tells about Rhino done by Adam OHern who goes by the name of Cadjunkie. It was done a few years ago and it really takes the point that Rhino solids and filleting sucks! In the video Ohern claims that he can’t use Rhino without SpaceClaim. Adam’s got that right because it’s absolutely ridiculous that after all these years yet , Rhino still doesn’t have decent solids or decent filleting.

Creo Parametric

As per CAD/CAM press, Creo Parametric has been reported as being a total redo of Pro/E Wildfire with a new easy to use Windows Ribbon user interface. But was that the truth?…Nope!

Creo Parmetric user interface is a little more than a cosmetic rehab of Pro/E Wildfire, which in turn itself was a cosmetic rehab of Pro/E.

Once again PTC couldn’t deliver what they promised to deliver with Creo.

SolidWorks Blogs Are Dying

With the dying SolidWorks blogs and the leading SolidWorks “fog blog” that Matt Lombard runs is ruining the CAD/CAM stories. The fog blog is stale because of Matt’s censorship and besides being an arrogant and pompous; he’s a manufacturing blockhead. Several SolidWorks users posting to SolidWorks own forum have pointed this out to Lombard. His advice is to go to his own fog blog and rant and rave in an environment where the control in his hands.

For years Matt Lombard touted Mastercam as the leading solution for CAM programming on Usenet despite the fact that he doesn’t have any real machining experience and couldn’t machine his way out of a paper bag if he tried. The reality is that Mastercam is a cobbled together legacy code product with tons of problems and is no close to market leading technology. Mastercam is currently being dumped by long time Mastercam customers who’ve had enough of the bugs that never got fixed, the horrible treatment they recieve from CNC Software where the dealer always comes before the end user, etc.

On the SolidWorks’ fog blogs like that of Matt Lombards’, products that are much more advanced than Solidworks, like Missler’s TopSolid CADCAM 7, with its built in PDM, good configurations, their own 2D and 3D constraint manager, etc. don’t ever get discussed.

Virtual and Augmented reality technologies are starting to revolutionize compound product development and production processes. This means the graphics are very smooth and the user is less likely to experience aversion. These advances have led to the technology that energize the Samsung Gear VR, and the company also started accepting pre-orders for the Rift, which works with the Xbox One and gaming PCs.

Illinois Manufacturer Uses CAD-CAM Technology To Increase Quality , Production & Profitability

KPI Machining, Sheridan Illinois in order to stay productive and profitable in their CNC machining while providing quality parts, took to CAD/CAM technology to give them an edge.

KPI Machining is a job shop that produces CNC milled and CNC turned components with an importance on producing low quantity orders (1-500 parts).

When KPI turned to technology to help them succeed they found BobCAD-CAM for CNC programming software. KPI now uses the BobCAD-CAM Mill Pro and Lathe CAD/CAM to design and produce parts ,fixtures and their tooling.

KPI Machining reported that they rely on BobCAD-CAM for accurate 3D milling for solid modeling and programming of complex geometry for their CNC lathe. Obtaining a cycle time from a machining simulation allows them to more accurately quote parts. they also use BobCAD-CAM to produce technical sketches for customer verification and procurement of outsourced services.

The CAM software gave them all of the high speed elements they needed without having to spend much. Cutting tools included a 1/2-inch XPVS500-030 carbide end mill from Supermill. The part was machined at 2250 RPM, 56 IPM on the initial test run with an 8% climb step-over, 8% conventional step-over and 1 inch engagement. The Initial run came in at 3.3 lbs removed in 6.8 minutes and the same roughing tool was used to machine over 55 parts!

The same tool was being used for roughing the next operation. But KPI preferred to use the 1/2-Inch cutting tool since this component required that size or less for finishing as well as that the tool cost $65 and it can be sharpened again by the manufacturer, then the BobCAD toolpath can quickly be re-programmed to use the re-sharpened cutter. Hence saving them more money. They prefer not to implement a variety of different type roughing tools on such a low quantity run as this is equivalent to less money in the job, less setup/programming and operator intervention.

KPI reported that the Adaptive Roughing function is surprisingly easy to program and takes no longer than a drilling operation to setup. No chirping in corners equals maximum tool life for carbide, and no unforeseen gouges in the part from tool deflection in corners.

Very consistent finishing stock is left all around the part even without an additional profile pass to clean up. Negligible spindle load or axis load is easy on the machinery and this is inevitably easy on the companies maintenance costs.

KPI Machining can depend on BobCAD-CAM Mill Pro and Lathe software to get parts out the door by taking full advantage of the software’s ability; 2D drawing, 3D modeling, and providing a variety of toolpath options that give an edge in the their market.

The toolpath capability BobCAD-CAM provides allows KPI to manufacture complicated parts, fixtures and tooling easily and efficiently. It seems part families and component design changes are no more an issue for KPI due to the software’s structure.

 

If something changes on a part, they simply re-sektch, select and compute them again, the toolpath due to the ability to associate the part model to the CAM Tree. Another huge advantage is getting the choice to name and then save individual machining features for later use. The 3D simulation is extremely remarkable in the fact that it shows an actual tool holder geometry, tool protrusion and length of cut of the tool. One can observe problem areas in his program before the code ever gets posted.

Drilling Machine…. Its Working And Types

The drilling machine or drill press is one of the most common and useful machine used in industries for producing, forming and finishing holes in a work piece. The unit need to consist of:

1. A spindle which turns the drill which can be progressed in the workpiece either automatically or by hand.

2. A work table holds the workpiece rigidly in position.

Working principle:

Though holes can be made by some other machine tools or machines but drilling can be done very easily and at low cost in a shorter duration. A mark is made at the specific location with a center punch. The rotating edge of the drill exerts a large force on the workpiece and the hole is created. The removal of metal in a drilling operation is by shearing and extrusion.

Grooving:

It is the process of cutting a narrow groove on the exterior of the work piece. Its usually done at the end of a thread or near the shoulder to leave a small margin. The groove might be in many shapes square, radial or beveled.

Undercutting:

It is done at the end of a hole near the shoulder of stepped cylindrical surfaces and at the end of threaded portion in bolts. Its a process of increasing the diameter if done internally and reducing the diameter when done externally over a short length. Boring and parting tools are used for this operation.

Components :

Spindle

The spindle holds the drill and revolves in a fixed position in a sleeve.

Sleeve

Feed pressure is given to the sleeve by hand or power and cause the revolving drill to cut its way into the work a fraction of an mm per revolution.

Column

The column supports the assembly of the head and the sleeve.

Head

The head of the drilling machine consists of a spindle,sleeve, an electric motor and a feed mechanism. The head is secured to the column.

Worktable

It is supported on an arm mounted to the column. This can be adjusted in vertical mode to accommodate different heights of work.

Base

The base of the drilling machine supports the complete machine and when secured to the floor, provides for vibration-free operation and best machining accuracy.

An Overview On Top Solid 7

TopSolid is a fully integrated CAD/CAM software developed by the company Missler Software. Being a completely integrated CAD/CAM software it allows users to design and manufacture their parts (by programming NC machines) using the same software.

TopSolid 7 is a next generation methodology for modeling, by the from Missler Software. It is claimed to offer huge innovations on the CAD/CAM market by simplifying design and modification of large assemblies in an organized and structured environment. The end user is said to benefit from productivity gains i.e. estimated at being 30% superior to conventional solutions.

A brief History of TopDolid

Created by Missler Software based in Paris, France.

They were formerly known as Missler Informatique, a manufacturing company founded by the Missler brothers in 1984.

They previously designed and manufactured CNC machines.

They at first made 2D CAD/CAM software.

In the early-2000’s, a MBO (Management Buy Out) occurred in which all the empires the Missler brothers built were merged into Missler software to push the vision of TopSolid to the next level.

Currently, Missler Software is owned by four individuals and is yet a privately-held company.

Today, their product line includes TopSolid, TopSolid’Erp and GOelan.

TopSolid UI

The TopSolid User Interface is one of the most intuitive interface. It’s laid out extremely well and really focuses on reducing the amount of area tool bars, command options and collapsible windows take up.

The Project Manager to the right handles all your files for each project.

Entity Manager to the left handles all the features, shapes, constraints, solids and more.

TopSolid Projects

Instead of starting with creating a part or assembly, first you need to create a Project. The Project contains everything – Sketches, Parts, Assemblies, Flat Patterns and access to all the revisions of your files.

Modeling

It is very much like other 3D softwares : create a design, extrude, add more features. Designs have relations automatically added and you can edit the dimensions without getting into the sketch. You have typical solid features, but also the ability to add machine features like pockets, grooves and slots along with drilling and threading operations.

TopSolid CAM

The CAM portion is completely integrated inside the interface . It is fast to set up toolpath because it automatically creates the tool-path after you have selected the tool.

Integrated PDM

The most wonderful idea any PDM system could ever attain is the sense that it doesn’t even exist; simply you don’t know you’re even using a PDM system….This would denote the integrated PDM system within TopSolid. Though it’s doing it’s working behind the scenes, it has full part numbering, controlled revision and simple life-cycle work-flow functionality, completely built in and dead simple to set-up.
